ABOUT OUR CEO
Mr. Culpepper grew up in Blakely, Georgia.
In 1963 Mr. Culpepper began his construction and development career by moving to Columbus, Ga. and working with the Jordan Construction Company for twelve years. He then became president of his own construction company, which specialized in retail-tenant construction until he joined Jacoby Development, Inc. in 1986.
Richard Culpepper joined Jacoby Development Co. in January 1986 and moved his family from Columbus, Georgia to Carrollton, Georgia in 1990. Richard was named President of JDI in 1994. He was responsible for the day to day management of the company’s development operations, which included retail, office, hotel, resort, and mixed-use properties. Mr. Culpepper brought to JDI more than 41 years of experience in the construction industry, including 21 years in retail and mixed-use development and construction.
He was made a partner in JDI in 1996 and his duties were expanded to include responsibility for all financial aspects of major projects including coordination with major financial institutions. Mr. Culpepper coordinated 67 projects throughout his 21 years at JDI that spanned from Florida to Maryland.
In Jan. 2007 JDI dissolved its commercial development division. Utilizing the former development arm of JDI, Mr. Culpepper created Culpepper Development, Inc. He is the company CEO and actively oversees all aspects of the company business.
Mr. Culpepper is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, serving on the organization’s Georgia staff. His other professional affiliations include: serving as a member of the board of trustees for the University of West Georgia, Tanner Medical Foundation Board, and Georgians for Better Transportation, and past member of the Board of Advisors for the Georgia Institute of Technology’s newly formed Development and Building Construction Program. He also serves on the Board of Successful Christian Living Ministries in Dallas, Texas, an organization dedicated to working with the next generation of young people in a Christian environment.
In 2007, he had the vision to drill wells in remote desert villages where unreached peoples live. God has made that reality, and thousands of people now have clean water to drink, and also get to hear about the “Living Water” (Jesus), and what He wants to do in their lives.
Richard’s hobbies include hunting, fishing and golfing. He is active in the First United Methodist Church of Carrollton. He and his wife, Patty have been married for 46 years, and have two children: Andrea who resides in Carrollton with her husband and three children, and Brad and his wife who also reside in Carrollton.
